What we know about Lumen Field

Where visiting fans stay

From a specialist guide
  • Pioneer Square. 5 min. Walk. The best carless base of any stadium in this group. Hotels sit 0.2 to 0.3 miles from the gates (Silver Cloud Hotel, Embassy Suites Pioneer Square, Courtyard Seattle Downtown). Sports bars and brewpubs line First Avenue South. Pioneer Square has its own Link light rail station. You walk to the game and walk home. No transit leg on game day.
  • International District / Chinatown. 8 min. Walk. The ID/Chinatown Link station sits about a quarter mile from Lumen Field's north side. It is often less crowded than the Stadium station on game day. The food scene here is deep, cheap and good for the night before. That beats Pioneer Square's bar-heavy options.
  • Downtown Seattle / Belltown. Link light rail 1 or 2 Line to Stadium or International District/Chinatown. This area has the most hotel rooms. Use it if Pioneer Square is full or you want a quieter street at night. It is two Link stops from the stadium, or a 20 to 25 minute walk downhill.

Around the stadium

From a specialist guide
Pioneer Square and SoDo put you close to the stadium and in the city at once. Three named hotels sit within 0.2 to 0.3 miles. Sports bars cluster on First Avenue South. Food trucks and street vendors set up near the stadium on game day. T-Mobile Park, home of the Mariners, sits right across the street with its own party patio for pre-game.

Getting in from the airport

Checked at the source
SEA, Seattle-Tacoma International. Ride the Link light rail 1 Line straight from the airport to downtown Seattle (Westlake) in 38 minutes. Stadium and International District/Chinatown stations come a few stops before Westlake.

Getting to the stadium

Checked at the source
Link light rail, 1 Line and 2 Line. Stadium station sits right next to the field. International District/Chinatown is about a quarter mile from the north side. Sounder Game Trains. King Street Station sits a football field away from the stadium. Washington State Ferries from Colman Dock, Pier 52. Colman Dock sits less than a mile from the stadium, just blocks away. Seattle Streetcar and King County Metro. The streetcar stops at S Jackson St and Occidental, 0.3 miles from the stadium. Over 15 daily bus routes stop within 3 blocks.

Tailgating

Checked at the source
Lumen Field bans tailgating in its own lots. There is no tailgate scene here. Pioneer Square's bar district is a five-minute walk away and works as the pre-game spot, which suits a carless fan better than a parking lot would.

Getting in

Checked at the source
  • Bag policy: Bags allowed: clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags up to 12" x 6" x 12"; one-gallon clear freezer bags; and clear backpacks within those dimensions with no more than 2 pockets. Small bags up to 4.5" x 6.5" are fine too, with or without a handle or strap. Soft-sided seat cushions are allowed, with no pockets, zippered compartments, metal frames or extra straps. Medically necessary items, including diaper bags, are allowed after inspection, but only at the Cascade VIP Gate, Olympic VIP Gate, Rainier VIP Gate, Club Entrance (Garage Level 5) or Suite Entrance (Garage Level 6). An international fan with a diaper bag must use one of those specific gates, not the nearest one.
  • Re-entry: Re-entry is allowed, but only before kickoff. The Seahawks state: "Due to security concerns and direction from NFL Security, re-entry is only permitted up until kickoff time. After kickoff there is no re-entry." That's more permissive than most NFL venues.
  • Prohibited items: Banned outside: sodas, specialty coffees and sports drinks (factory-sealed water and soft-sided juice boxes are fine); non-collapsible umbrellas (collapsible ones are allowed); banners, signs and flags on poles or sticks; professional cameras with lenses 200mm or longer, and tripods. Power banks are allowed for charging your phone only, not for powering anything else. Also banned: megaphones, air horns, sirens, horns, whistles, drums, cow bells.

Touring the stadium

Checked at the source
Public tours get scheduled around stadium events, so a Seahawks home date won't have one. Tour dates get released monthly on Ticketmaster and sell online only; the box office doesn't sell tour tickets. Lumen Field Public Tour runs on non-event days only. Dates get released monthly, so a Saturday tour before a Sunday game is possible but not guaranteed; check per fixture. Buy tickets only online at Ticketmaster.com; the Lumen Field Box Office doesn't sell them. Adults (12+) pay $50; juniors (3-11) pay $45; seniors (62+) and military pay $45; children 2 and under go free. Arrive 30 minutes early for security screening. The tour covers about a mile of walking inside and outside.

After the final whistle

From a specialist guide
No official time is published for clearing the stadium. If you stay in Pioneer Square, it barely matters. Walk out and you're in the bars within ten minutes. The Stadium Link station sits closest, so it gets the most crowded. Walking the extra quarter mile to International District/Chinatown usually beats the line. Sounder game trains run for most games, not all.

One thing to avoid

From a specialist guide
Skip the rental car. Lumen Field bans tailgating in its own lots. The garage runs a fixed 6am-to-two-hours-post-event window. Everything useful sits within walking distance of a train. The Stadium Link station is the obvious pick but gets the most crowded. International District/Chinatown sits a quarter mile away and usually clears faster after the game.

Bars near the stadium

Checked at the source
  • Un Po Tipsy

Pioneer Square, Seattle, WA (street number unconfirmed)

Doors open at 11 and the room runs until 8 p.m. daily, covering the whole pre-game for an afternoon kickoff.

  • Good Bar

Pioneer Square, Seattle, WA (street number unconfirmed)

It sits in an old bank building with the original vault door still in place. Instead of pitchers and wings, it serves craft cocktails and mezze: pita wraps, grilled halloumi, a full drinks list.

Away fans: it's a cocktail bar near the stadium, not a sports bar.

  • Taylor Shellfish

Occidental Avenue, Pioneer Square, Seattle, WA (street number unconfirmed)

This is the regional pick, and a true Seattle move before a game. It's a throwback oyster room on Occidental, run by a Puget Sound shellfish grower.

  • Hatback Bar and Grille / Steelheads Alley

SoDo, Seattle, WA - the former Pyramid Brewing building, facing T-Mobile Park

This is a restaurant, taproom and beer garden in the old Pyramid Brewing building. Metier Brewing makes beer on site; Metier is a Black-owned Washington brewery.

Away fans: it's mainly a baseball bar. On NFL Sundays, it works as overflow.
