Gates, bags, payment and access at Reliant Stadium, formerly NRG Stadium.
The Texans tell fans to arrive early for extra security screening, but give no set arrival time. Gates open 2 hours before kickoff for Club and Suite tickets, and 90 minutes before for everyone else.
The Texans have moved to mobile-only tickets and parking passes. Tickets live in the Houston Texans app or Ticketmaster Account Manager. Forward each guest their own ticket in advance. Charge your phone fully and turn screen brightness up. No guidance is published for international visitors on US phone numbers, non-US app stores, or loading tickets before arrival.
The Texans publish a 3D Interactive Stadium Map, powered by Concept3D, plus static maps for the 100/300 Mezzanine, 300 Club, and 500 level, along with a ticket and seating map. There's no section-to-gate table. Link out to the live interactive map instead of guessing. the stadium guide names four gates: Ford (SW), Kroger (NE), Phillips 66 (SE), Xfinity (NW), plus East and West Club entrances. See houstontexans.com/stadium/maps.
Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC, no larger than 12" x 6" x 12", or a one-gallon clear zip-seal bag. A small clutch up to 4.5" x 6.5" is also allowed. Medically necessary items are the only exception at Texans games. Note: the wider Reliant Park rule for non-NFL events is different, allowing an 11" x 17" bag with diaper and medical bags checked at inspection. Don't apply that rule on game day.
Watch for these stricter rules: camera lenses over 3 inches are banned, tighter than the 6-inch limit at SoFi, Soldier Field, and U.S. Bank Stadium. Binocular and camera cases are barred. So is outside food and drink, large umbrellas, air horns, whistles, noisemakers, cowbells, backpacks, and coolers. Strollers are allowed but must be checked at a Guest Experience booth.
No re-entry once your ticket is scanned. Both the Texans stadium guide and the Reliant Park campus stadium guide confirm a facility-wide no re-entry policy.
All food, drink, and merchandise purchases are cashless. Credit, debit, Apple Pay, and Android Pay are accepted. No cash-to-card kiosk is listed anywhere on the Texans or Reliant Park sites. A cash-only visitor has no listed backup if a card is declined.
There's no separate accessible gate. All main gates, Kroger (NE), Phillips 66 (SE), Ford (SW), and Xfinity (NW), take wheeled equipment. Each gate has two elevators serving every level. Mobility assistance runs from the ticket gates to your seat. Request it on site or by texting 832-241-0202.
ADA seating sits at the top of sections on the lower, mezzanine, and upper concourses. Book through the Texans box office in advance at 832-667-2002, option 1. Each accessible ticket allows one companion ticket, first-come first-served. Gameday seat relocation may be possible. No advance-notice period is listed for booking seats.
The stadium partners with KultureCity. A Sensory Room sits across from the Field Level Guest Experience Booth at Section 133. Sensory bags, with noise-cancelling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards, and weighted lap pads, are available at Guest Experience booths with an ID deposit. Free assistive listening devices are available there too, with a government ID. Sign language interpreters need at least 30 business days notice, far more than Lambeau's 48 hours. Book early if your trip is inside six weeks.
A Nursing Mother's Room sits behind the Guest Experience Booth at Section 133. Family and ADA-accessible restrooms are on every concourse level. For lost members of your group, go to any Guest Experience booth or text 832-241-0202. First aid stations are at Sections 120, 140, 301, 329, 525, and 551. Strollers are allowed but must be checked at a Guest Experience booth.
Free Wi-Fi is available to all guests, courtesy of Xfinity. Connect to "Xfinity NRG Stadium" on your phone. That name may change after the stadium's April 2026 sponsor switch, so check it again before you go. No word yet on cell signal boosters or DAS coverage.
The bars fans pick on game day, and how each one treats a visiting fan.
Mostly home fans.
Michael Griffin opened Griff's in 1965, blending his Irish roots with a love of sports. It's billed as the oldest surviving sports bar in Houston. ESPN named it Best Sports Bar in America in 2004.
Pub food, wings, drinks, and lunch specials. Call (713) 528-9912. Confirm gameday hours directly, since reopening-era hours aren't reliably posted. No shuttle service.
Mixed, welcoming to away fans
Named for Astros Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, this bar sits inside the Marriott Marquis overlooking Discovery Green. It's Houston's go-to spot for visiting fans. Two 30-foot HD screens anchor the room, backed by a wall of LED panels.
Full kitchen on site. It's a hotel bar, so it opens early and takes reservations for larger groups. No dedicated shuttle, ride the Red Line instead.

Where visiting fans stay
Downtown Houston
20 min by METRORail Red Line to Stadium Park/Astrodome. Reliant's campus has no bar scene. It's a sea of parking lots.
Midtown
15 min by METRORail Red Line. Both sit on the same Red Line between downtown and the stadium. That makes them closer to the stadium than downtown, with full transit access.
NRG
8 min on foot. This only works if you want to roll out of bed into the stadium. The Crowne Plaza (0.3 mi), Vacation Inn Houston S, NRG Area (0.4 mi) and Extended Stay America (0.4 mi) are walking distance to the stadium.
A car helps here
No train to the stadium, so a car helps.
Sat, Oct 24 to Mon, Oct 26, picked up and dropped at the airport.
The Giants are 2-1 after 3 games, 2nd in the NFC East.
They are 0-1 on the road.
The Texans are 0-3 after 3 games, 4th in the AFC South.
They have lost 3 in a row.
They are 0-2 at home.
IAH George Bush Intercontinental is 60 minutes away by rideshare or METRO bus. Budget at least an hour. Hobby Airport sits much closer to the south side of Houston and to the stadium than IAH. It's mostly served by Southwest. Check it for domestic flights, since the time saved over IAH is real.
METRORail Red Line to Stadium Park/Astrodome, about 20 minutes from Downtown Houston. Fare is $1.25 regular, $0.60 discounted. A $3 Day Pass covers unlimited rail and local bus until 2 a.m. Pay by contactless card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or the RideMETRO card. Transfers are free within three hours. The station sits on the stadium campus, but it's a long walk across the parking lot to the gates. Rail riders are directed to Gate 2 off Fannin..
Traffic around the campus is heavy after the game. The Red Line is the fastest way out. No official time is published for the post-game exit. Weekend trains run every 12 minutes, so a line builds on the platform after a Sunday game. Expect to let a train or two pass before you board.
The stadium's A-Z guide does not list a rideshare zone. Rideshare works, but post-game waits on campus run long. The usual advice: ride the Red Line one or two stops away before calling a car, or just take the train all the way into town.
Don't book at the stadium expecting nightlife. Don't book far out along I-610 or in the Energy Corridor or Katy just because Houston is a driving city. Without a car, what matters is whether your hotel sits on the Red Line. Also plan for the walk: leaving Stadium Park/Astrodome station means crossing a large parking lot to reach the stadium. Give yourself more time than a 'station at the stadium' sounds like.
Lots open four hours before kickoff for Texans games. Timing is flexible for other events. Tailgating is allowed in all Reliant Park parking lots, not just designated ones, at every Texans game. But it's still parking-lot-based, so a fan without a car has no spot of their own. The culture is welcoming, and lots open four hours before kickoff. Walk the lots and you may get invited in, but that's not guaranteed.
Downtown Houston: 20 min by METRORail Red Line to Stadium Park/Astrodome. Reliant's campus has no bar scene. It's a sea of parking lots. Midtown: 15 min by METRORail Red Line. Both sit on the same Red Line between downtown and the stadium. That makes them closer to the stadium than downtown, with full transit access.
There's no walkable bar district at the stadium. A few spots sit within 0.1 to 0.3 miles: Asahi Sushi, Russo's NY Pizzeria, and Pappas Bar-B-Q. The rest are scattered along the I-610 frontage roads, too spread out to wander between. The real draw here is the rail station, not the surroundings.
Two nights is enough. The rail link is reliable, so you don't need an extra buffer day. Houston's museums and restaurants all sit on the same rail line.
Hotel supply is low-pressure most weekends. Houston has a large hotel inventory across downtown, Midtown, and the Medical Center, all on or near the Red Line. Regular NFL weekends shouldn't strain it. Watch out for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, held on this same campus each February and March, and any major convention.
