What we know about U.S. Bank Stadium

Where visiting fans stay

Checked at the source
  • Downtown East / Mill District. 5 min by walk. The stadium is at 401 Chicago Avenue, in downtown Minneapolis, not on its edge. Radisson Red, Moxy and Aloft are all about 0.2 miles away. Hubert's Bar sits within 0.1 miles of the gates, and South Washington Avenue, with its brewpubs, Thai restaurants and chains, is two blocks north. For an away fan this is the rare case where the closest hotels are also the right hotels.
  • Nicollet Mall / core downtown. 15 min. enclosed skyway walk, or one stop on the Blue/Green line. This is the detail that changes everything for a December or January game. The Minneapolis skyway system runs an enclosed, heated route all the way to U.S. Bank Stadium, and it stays open before, during and after every Vikings game. Hotels on the skyway route include The Westin, Hyatt Centric, Royal Sonesta, Rand Tower, Marriott, Embassy Suites, The Lofton and Hyatt Place. Book one of these and you can walk to your seat in a shirt in January. Hotels that are only near the route, like Hilton Garden Inn, Vacation Inn Express, Hotel Ivy and Hilton Minneapolis, connect at street level, which is not the same thing.
  • North Loop. 15 min. METRO Blue or Green line, or a 20-minute walk. This is the best bar and restaurant district in the city, about a mile northwest of the stadium and on the Green and Blue line via Target Field. Pick this area if the trip is as much about the city as the game. Pick Downtown East if it is about the game.

Around the stadium

From a specialist guide
Stay in Downtown East, around South Washington Avenue. This is a real walkable bar scene, and an unusual one. Hubert's Bar & Restaurant sits within 0.1 miles of the stadium, and South Washington Avenue, two blocks north, carries most of the bars and restaurants. Because the stadium sits right inside downtown, staying near the stadium and staying in the city mean the same thing here, which isn't true at Soldier Field or Lambeau.

Getting in from the airport

Checked at the source
From MSP Minneapolis-St. Paul International, the trip downtown takes 30 minutes on the METRO Blue Line light rail, straight from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 stations into downtown Minneapolis, with no transfer, no bus and no taxi needed.

Getting to the stadium

Checked at the source
Take the METRO Blue Line or Green Line to U.S. Bank Stadium station, about 30 min. The station platform sits right at the stadium's front door. Walk the Minneapolis skyway system, which is enclosed and heated. The skyway takes you straight into the stadium. Normal hours are Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday noon to 6 p.m., but hours get extended for stadium events and are set for each game. For example, on Sunday September 13, 2026 it runs noon to 9 p.m., on Sunday October 25, 2026 it runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Monday November 9, 2026 it runs 3 p.m. to midnight.

Tailgating

From a specialist guide
Here's something worth knowing before you plan around it: classic parking-lot tailgating at U.S. Bank Stadium is closed to visiting fans. The Vikings sell tailgating passes only as a season-long package because of limited space and demand, and single-game passes aren't sold. In its place are two walk-up pre-game areas on the stadium grounds. The Delta Vikings Village opens three hours before kickoff, or 10 to 10:30 a.m. for a noon game, and closes an hour after the game ends, with a bar, team store, games, sponsor booths, and food and drink from Aramark at The Longhouse. The SPAM Tailgate happens at The Commons, the public park outside the stadium, with a DJ starting three hours before kickoff and, for some games, a free concert. No official source says whether you need a game ticket to get into either one, so treat that as unconfirmed. At the Delta Vikings Village, it's unconfirmed whether you need a game ticket, and no separate admission fee is advertised. It opens three hours before kickoff, or 10 to 10:30 a.m. for a noon kickoff, and closes an hour after the game ends. At the SPAM Tailgate at The Commons, it's unconfirmed whether you need a ticket. The Commons is a public city park, and the Vikings describe the entertainment there as free, including a free headline concert on some game days. It opens three hours before kickoff, with entertainment starting at 10 a.m. for a noon kickoff.

Getting in

Checked at the source
  • Bag policy: For Vikings games, you can bring a clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag no bigger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, a one-gallon clear freezer bag, or a small clutch bag up to 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches with or without a strap. Bags needed for medical reasons get checked case by case. Hard-sided containers, coolers, briefcases, backpacks and camera bags are not allowed. This bag rule is just for Vikings games, so don't assume it holds for a concert at the same stadium.
  • Re-entry: You can't leave and come back in on the same ticket. The only exception is an emergency re-entry approved by a gate supervisor.
  • Prohibited items: Items not allowed include large umbrellas, strollers, laptops, video cameras, and any camera lens over 6 inches, though still cameras with a lens of 6 inches or smaller are fine. Also banned are laser pointers, air horns, flagpoles, selfie sticks, beach balls, balloons, skateboards and drones. Outside food and drink are not allowed beyond one water bottle, and the rules on that vary by event. You can bring in a jacket in your hands, which matters in January.

Touring the stadium

Checked at the source
There are no game-day tours. The stadium has said directly that they don't currently offer game-day tours, but they do offer the Ultimate Touchdown Tour the day before a Vikings home game. The regular Public Tour is also blacked out on event days. The Ultimate Touchdown Tour runs on select days before a Vikings home game. The regular Public Tour runs Wednesday through Sunday at 10 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., so for a Sunday game you'd book a slot sometime Wednesday through Saturday. There's no fixed booking window published, tickets go through Ticketmaster, and the stadium says advance purchase is strongly recommended because of demand. Sell-out risk is moderate. The Public Tour price isn't listed on the stadium site since it's sold through Ticketmaster, and group tour pricing depends on group size, so you'd contact [email protected] for that. The Public Tour runs 90 minutes, and the Ultimate Touchdown Tour runs 120 minutes.

After the final whistle

From a specialist guide
There's no official number for how long it takes to clear the stadium after the game. The main point is that leaving U.S. Bank Stadium is easy: two light rail lines board right at the door, the skyway stays open after the game, and most downtown hotels are a walk away. The one catch is that the light rail platforms fill up fast right after the final whistle, so the skyway is often faster if your hotel sits on it.

One thing to avoid

From a specialist guide
Watch for two traps. First, don't book at Mall of America or Bloomington just because it's cheap and sits on the Blue Line. It's 25 or more minutes out, that end of the Blue Line fills with Vikings fans before kickoff, and you lose the skyway, the bars and the walk home. Second, don't book a downtown hotel without checking that it sits directly on the skyway route rather than just near it. In a January game, that difference is the whole trip. Also, don't plan on tailgating, more on that below.

Bars near the stadium

Checked at the source
  • Crooked Pint Ale House

    501 Washington Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55415

Crooked Pint is the most reliable pre-game spot in Downtown East, and you can tell by its hours alone: on Sunday noon home games, it opens at 9 a.m., two hours earlier than usual, just for Vikings fans. It has the feel of a modern urban pub, with rough-sawn oak floors and classic pub furnishings, 28 draft lines weighted toward Minnesota and regional craft beer, and one of the biggest screens in downtown Minneapolis.

Away fans: mixed, a large downtown pub with broad trade

  • Day Block Brewing Company

    1105 S Washington Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55415

Day Block is in an 1883 building that has been a hospital, a furniture store, an undertaker's and a plumbing supply store over the years, and the brewery names its beers after them. So you can end up drinking a beer named after the undertaker who used to work in that room.

Away fans: mixed and welcoming, a neighborhood brewpub with a dog-friendly patio

  • Vikings Longhouse / Medtronic Plaza

Medtronic Plaza, 530 Chicago Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55415

This is the club's own pre-game setup, and it covers more than one bar. Medtronic Plaza opens three hours before kickoff with live music on the Sound the North Stage, drinks, concessions, food trucks and sponsor tents.

    Away fans: mixed
