Around the stadium

Checked at the source
Kenmore Square sits just north of the ballpark, with Hotel Commonwealth (the official Red Sox hotel) on Commonwealth Avenue. Lansdowne Street behind the Green Monster and Brookline Avenue hold the busiest pregame bars, and Boylston Street has more restaurants a block south.

Getting in from the airport

From a specialist guide
BOS (Boston Logan). The ballpark is about 5 miles away. Take the free Massport Shuttle to Airport station on the Blue Line, ride to Government Center, then take a B, C or D Green Line train to Kenmore. Plan on 40 to 50 minutes. The Silver Line SL1 bus is free from the terminals to South Station, where you can switch to the Red Line.

Getting to the stadium

Checked at the source
Green Line (B, C or D branch), about 12 min. Kenmore station. Turn left on Commonwealth Avenue, then left on Brookline Avenue, and the ballpark is just over the bridge (about 5 minutes on foot). Green Line D branch, about 15 min. Fenway station, about 0.4 miles southwest of the ballpark. Worcester Line commuter rail, about 10 min. Lansdowne Station, across the street from the ballpark. The last outbound train that makes all stops leaves Lansdowne at 10:31pm, which can be before a night game ends. Blue Line and Green Line from the airport, about 45 min. Kenmore station, a 5-minute walk from the gates. Ride the free Massport Shuttle to Airport station, take the Blue Line to Government Center and switch to a B, C or D train.

Tailgating

Checked at the source
Fenway Park sits in a dense neighborhood with no team lots, and the Red Sox urge fans to take transit. Fans gather on Lansdowne Street, Brookline Avenue and Kenmore Square bars instead. Jersey Street closes to traffic three hours before game time and reopens to ticketed fans when the gates open. It works as part of the concourse, with food, live music and the Team Store. Smoking is not allowed on Jersey Street on event days.

Getting in

Checked at the source
  • Bag policy: Bags must be single-compartment and no larger than 12 x 12 x 6 inches. Backpacks, backpack-style purses, duffel bags and other multi-compartment bags are not allowed, and clear backpacks are not allowed either. Diaper bags and medical bags are allowed. A paid locker truck sits on top of the Lansdowne Garage across from Gate E.
  • Cashless: All food and drink sales are cashless. Cash-to-card kiosks at the Gate E Concourse, Home Plate Concourse and the Gate B Kids Concourse load cash onto a Mastercard debit card with no fee for the first 93 days.

Touring the stadium

Checked at the source
The public tour lasts 60 minutes and costs $30 for adults and $21 for children 3 to 12 and military. It includes a stop atop the Green Monster. Tours leave from the Team Store on Jersey Street across from Gate A. Buy online up to 180 days ahead, at the Gate D ticket booth or by calling 617-226-6660. Costs $55. Early access to the warning track, the oldest seats in the ballpark and the Green Monster. You must leave the ballpark when the tour ends, so you need a game ticket to come back in. A $20, 15-minute tour from Gate B to the Royal Rooters Club and the Right Field Roof Deck, for fans who lack time for the full hour.

After the final whistle

From a specialist guide
Kenmore and Fenway stations get very crowded after the last out. To skip the crush, walk to Saint Mary's Street on the C branch or Prudential on the E branch and ride the Green Line back to Park Street or North Station. Or wait it out at a Kenmore Square bar for 30 minutes.

One thing to avoid

From a specialist guide
Driving and hunting for a spot. Parking near the ballpark can cost $40 or more, residential streets carry $100 tickets and towing, and backups start about an hour before first pitch. Take the Green Line to Kenmore.

Bars near the stadium

Checked at the source
  • Bleacher Bar

82A Lansdowne St, Boston, MA 02215

The only bar inside Fenway Park, tucked under the center field bleachers since 2008. A garage door window opens straight onto the outfield, so you look out at the field from the bar.

Away fans: a packed home crowd that is used to visitors, so expect some ribbing in away colors and nothing more.

  • Cask 'n Flagon

62 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215

A big sports bar across from the left field wall, where home runs over the Green Monster have landed. Stopping in before and after games is a ritual for Red Sox fans.

Away fans: the classic Red Sox bar, open since 1969. Expect loud home fans and some chirping if you wear away colors.

  • The Lansdowne Pub

9 Lansdowne St, Boston, MA 02215

An Irish pub on Lansdowne Street with live music seven nights a week and room for 600. It pours pints and serves pub food steps from the ballpark.

  • Cornwall's

644 Beacon St, Boston, MA 02215

A Kenmore Square bar since 1973, run by the same family. It has a big room to sit after the crowds leave and a kitchen that stays open until 11pm.

Away fans: a family-run neighborhood tavern with a relaxed crowd, so visitors in away colors fit in.
