Parking and tailgating at Busch Stadium

Tailgating

Checked at the source
The parking terms for the team lots and the One Cardinal Way Garage ban barbecues and other tailgating, and you cannot play music from a sound system. Plan to eat and drink at Ballpark Village or nearby bars instead. The Together Credit Union Plaza in Ballpark Village has more than 40,000 square feet of outdoor space with a big LED screen tied to the stadium feed. This is how St. Louis does a pregame instead of a lot party.

Getting in

Checked at the source
  • Bag policy: Bags, purses and soft-sided coolers up to 10 by 8 by 10 inches are allowed. They do not need to be clear. Medical bags and diaper bags with a child are exceptions. All bags are inspected, and everyone walks through a metal detector.
  • Cashless: All stands, kiosks and shops take only credit and debit cards. You can turn cash into a debit card with no fee at the 8th Street Market (level 1 near the west ramp), the Broadway Market (level 1 across from Gate 6) or the Terrace Market (section 450).
  • Exit and re-entry: Get a hand stamp at Gate 1 or Gate 4 before you leave. With the stamp and your ticket you can come back in at any gate until 90 minutes after the scheduled first pitch. You will go through screening again.

Touring the stadium

Checked at the source
A one-hour guided tour that usually stops at the UMB Champions Club, the broadcast booth and the warning track or dugout when available. It includes entry to the Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum. Adults pay $22, seniors and military $20, kids 15 and under $18. Tours start at Gate 3 on 8th Street, often sell out, and run rain or shine. Buy at cardinals.com/tours or call (314) 345-9000. Seven galleries of club history at Cardinals Nation in Ballpark Village. Adults pay $12, seniors and military $10, kids $8, and kids 3 and under get in free.

After the final whistle

Checked at the source
After the game, 8th Street from Gratiot to Clark closes to cars so the crowd can walk out. MetroLink runs until about midnight, and if a game goes past midnight trains keep running until the downtown platform is clear. Car lots close one hour after the game ends. To skip the platform crush, wait 30 minutes at Ballpark Village before you head to the train.

One thing to avoid

From a specialist guide
Driving in without a prepaid pass. Team lots are cashless on game day, passes live in the MLB Ballpark app, and buying in advance saves $5. MetroLink drops you at the gates for less.

Seats and shade at Busch Stadium

Where the sun lands on a day game, and which seats stay dry when it rains.

Shade and cover

From a specialist guide
  • Field level outfield on the left field side, sections 160 to 172, rows 20 and up. These rows sit under the deck above and stay shaded and dry. The Left Field Porch seats above sections 170 to 172 have some of the best shade in the ballpark in summer.
  • Field level on the first base side, sections 127 to 140, rows 21 and up. The front rows face west and take a lot of afternoon sun. Only the back rows under the overhang stay shaded all game.
  • Field level behind home plate, sections 145 to 155, rows 24 and up. The back rows are under cover, which also keeps you dry in a passing shower. Rows in front of that are open.
  • Pavilion level behind home plate, sections 347 to 353. Most rows get shade late in the afternoon, but in an early afternoon game this is one of the sunniest areas in the ballpark.
  • Outfield bleachers, sections 101 to 111 and 189 to 197. These seats get almost no shade all day. Bring a hat and sunscreen in a non-aerosol bottle, since aerosol cans are banned.
