Where to stay near GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium
Where visiting fans stay
From a specialist guide

Downtown Kansas CityVisiting fans pick this
20 min by rideshare. The Truman Sports Complex has nothing around it, so you build the trip around the city instead. Downtown gives you the Power & Light District's bars, the Crossroads arts district, the free KC Streetcar along Main Street, and the barbecue and jazz that are the real reason to visit Kansas City. You'll pay for a rideshare to the stadium, about 10 miles southeast down I-70, but you'd be paying for one from anywhere you stay.
Sports Complex hotel cluster
12 min by walk. This only makes sense if you care more about a short walk than having anything to do. The hotels sit 0.5 to 0.6 miles out, which you can walk, but it doesn't get you much: a Taco Bell 0.4 miles away is the closest thing to a restaurant, Casey's at 0.7 miles is the closest thing to a bar, and past that it's just fast food and hotel lobbies. You'll spend your evenings taking rideshares into town.
Around the stadium
From a specialist guide
There's no cluster of restaurants or bars near the stadium. The Truman Sports Complex is two stadiums surrounded by acres of parking at the I-70/I-435 interchange. The nearest restaurant is a Taco Bell 0.4 miles away, and the nearest bar is Casey's Bar at 0.7 miles. Everything social happens either in the parking lots or back in the city.

Parking and tailgating at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium
Parking
From a specialist guide
Lots take pre-paid passes and open five hours before kickoff; grills are fine in your own space. Walk-up spots sell only when lots have room.
Tailgating
Checked at the source
The official tailgating policy says parking spaces can't be used for tailgate equipment alone, which rules out a carless fan claiming a spot without a vehicle. Setups can extend up to eight feet behind each parking space, and the emergency lanes marked by two yellow lines must stay clear. There's a limited 'open park' allowance for the first 30 minutes after gates open, but it doesn't turn into a walk-up tailgate spot. If you don't have a car, your real option is the Ford Tailgate District. The Ford Tailgate District has no admission cost. It's located outside the Hy-Vee Gate on the stadium apron, and it opens 4 hours before kickoff, staying open until just before kickoff.
Tailgating without a car
Checked at the source
Official lots require a parked vehicle. Parking spaces may not be used for tailgate equipment alone.

Getting in
Checked at the source
Bag policy: Bags are allowed if they're clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and no bigger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or a one-gallon clear freezer bag, or a clutch no bigger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.
Re-entry: No re-entry. Once you leave, your ticket will not get you back in, so do not step out to the tailgate.
Touring the stadium
Checked at the source
Arrowhead runs a 60-minute Gameday Tour during home games, and you can book it publicly through Ticketmaster as a VIP add-on, no group sales needed. It covers The Penthouse presented by Tickets for Less, the Chiefs Hall of Honor, and 20 minutes on the sidelines during pre-game warm-ups. That sideline access is the best part of the tour. You can find it at arrowheadstadiumkc.com/tours. The Public Tour runs daily except game days and books through Ticketmaster. Private Tours run Sunday through Thursday only and need full payment 5 days in advance. Price isn't listed on the tours page, but there are discounts for seniors 65 and up, kids 5 to 12, and military. Private Guided Tours run 90 minutes, Sunday through Thursday only, never on a game day or the day after, and take up to 20 guests online, with larger groups by request. Full payment is due at least 5 days ahead. Over the phone, they quoted $300 for 1 to 4 guests, $500 for 5 to 10, and $650 for 11 to 20, a flat group rate not listed online.
One thing to avoid
From a specialist guide
Don't book the hotels near the sports complex thinking there's a stadium district around them, there isn't, and you'll end up with neither a walkable city nor a car. At the same time, don't book far out in Overland Park or Lee's Summit to save money, because without a car you're stuck paying for two expensive rideshares to get anywhere.

Bars near the stadium

Chappell's Restaurant and Sports Museum
323 Armour Rd, North Kansas City, MO 64116
Jim Chappell opened this bar in 1986 with 65 chairs and a few things on the walls, meaning it to be a political-and-sports bar, but six months in he dropped the politics. Over the next 32 years he kept buying memorabilia at sports shows around the country until he ran out of wall space and started covering the ceiling too.
Away fans: away fans are welcome here. It's a sports museum first, covering sports nationally instead of focusing on the Chiefs.
Brooksider Sportsbar & Grill, Google Maps
The Brooksider Sports Bar & Grill
6330 Brookside Plaza, Kansas City, MO 64113
The Brooksider is the neighborhood bar in Brookside, one of Kansas City's older residential areas. It's a local's bar that happens to be very good for football rather than a place built just for that.
Away fans: mostly home fans.

Gael's Public House & Sports
5424 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO 64110
Gael's is set in a 100 year old building in the university area between UMKC and Rockhurst, which gives it a solid feel most sports bars don't have. It has old bones, three full service bars, and 26 screens.
Kelly's Westport Inn, Google Maps
Kelly's Westport Inn
Westport, Kansas City, MO
Visit KC's Chiefs gameday guide calls Kelly's 'an old-school joint with a passionate following,' and it anchors Westport, the district Kansas City points visitors to for a night out. It's the opposite of a polished modern sports bar, a long-standing, unfussy room with real history in the building.
Away fans: mixed crowd. Westport is KC's nightlife district and draws people from all over.
