VTA light rail (Green or Orange Line) to Great America station, 0. 2 miles from the stadium entrance. The right answer for a visiting fan. The near-stadium hotels serve Silicon Valley business travelers, and the area around them is office parks and chain restaurants like IHOP and In-N-Out, with no pre-game bar scene. Downtown San Jose has the bars and restaurants, sits about 15 to 20 minutes from SJC, and has a direct VTA light rail run to Great America station right beside the stadium.
Santa Clara near-stadium hotelsVisiting fans pick this
Walk. This one is genuinely walkable. Hyatt Regency Santa Clara and Hilton Santa Clara are about 0.4 miles away, and Santa Clara Marriott is about 0.9 miles away. The catch is these are convention and business-travel hotels that empty out on weekends, so you get a short walk but nothing to do the night before. It's worth it if you care more about the walk home than having something to do before the game.
San Francisco
Caltrain to Mountain View, transfer to VTA Orange Line light rail. This is more of a warning than a recommendation. From San Francisco you take Caltrain to Mountain View, then transfer to the VTA Orange Line. That's two legs and roughly 90 minutes door to door, and getting back after a game that ends late is the hard part. Book San Francisco because you want to stay in San Francisco, not because you think it's near the stadium.
Around the stadium
From a specialist guide
The Santa Clara business hotel cluster, around Tasman Drive and Great America Parkway, has three hotels within 0.9 miles, so a fan without a car can sleep right by the stadium. But this cluster is hotels and office parks, not a place with any game-day atmosphere. The nearest food is chain restaurants. If your priority is a fun night before the game, skip this area, but if you just want a short walk home after the game, it works.

Getting to Levi's Stadium
From San Jose Mineta
From a specialist guide
SJC, San Jose Mineta International, is about 20 minutes by rideshare or taxi to downtown San Jose, and the airport itself is about four miles from the stadium.
On game day
Checked at the source
Take the VTA light rail, Orange Line or Green Line, to Great America station. It's 0.2 miles, about a fifth of a mile, from the platform to the stadium entrance. Light rail riders line up on the Gate A side facing Tasman Drive. Take Caltrain to Mountain View, then transfer to the VTA Orange Line. You get a fairly easy cross-platform transfer at Mountain View, then it's a 0.2 mile walk once you get off at Great America. Take BART to Milpitas station, then transfer to the VTA Orange Line. It's 0.2 miles from the Great America station to the stadium. Take ACE or Capitol Corridor to Santa Clara-Great America station. This station is about 0.6 miles from the VTA Great America light rail station, which has a confusingly similar name but is a different stop. VTA advises transferring at Lick Mill station instead, since it's only 0.2 miles from the ACE and Capitol Corridor platform.
Parking and tailgating at Levi's Stadium
Parking
From a specialist guide
Parking passes are sold in advance and the closest lots sell out. Great America lots open four hours before kickoff.
Tailgating
Checked at the source
Tailgating at Levi's requires a vehicle, since it's a per-vehicle, per-parking-space activity in designated lots with pre-paid passes. There's no walk-up tailgate area for a fan arriving by light rail, and tailgating stops the moment the game starts. The rule is one car per one space: tailgating is limited to the lined parking space and the area directly behind or in front of each vehicle.
Tailgating without a car
From a specialist guide
Vehicle-based in the official lots.

Getting in
Checked at the source
Bag policy: All bags are banned except clear bags no bigger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, which covers clear backpacks, fanny packs, bags and purses. You can also bring a one-gallon clear zip-lock bag or a small non-clear clutch. The clutch size is listed two different ways on the stadium's own site, 4.5 by 5 inches in the A-Z guide and 4.5 by 6.5 inches on the permitted and prohibited items list. There's no listed exception for medical bags, diaper bags, or nursing bags, but you can bring food in clear plastic wrapping for any reason.
Re-entry: This isn't allowed for any event type. If you have an emergency need, the only option is to talk to staff at the gate.
Prohibited items: A few things are different here from most stadiums. Umbrellas are allowed as long as they don't block anyone's view, seat cushions are allowed, and strollers are allowed but have to be checked at a Guest Services station. Banned items include cameras with lenses over 3 inches, along with lights, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks and poles, flags, signs or banners bigger than 2 feet by 3 feet, any kind of pole, and klaxons, bullhorns, whistles or other noisemakers. Bottles over 24 ounces and thermoses are also banned. Sealed plastic water bottles and reusable clear bottles under 24 ounces are both allowed in.
Touring the stadium
From a specialist guide
There's no public guided stadium tour on game day. What you can do is visit the 49ers Museum, which opens three hours before kickoff, but you need two separate tickets, a game ticket and a museum ticket, since museum admission isn't included with your game ticket.
After the final whistle
From a specialist guide
This is Levi's weakest point and the thing to warn a fan about. VTA only runs extra bus and light rail service for up to one hour after the event ends, and the light rail line has a history of overcrowding and delays after big events. After Super Bowl LX in February 2026, fans reported waiting hours for trains and walking miles to other stops, even though VTA ran at 90% of light rail capacity with ten times the usual number of staff on hand. Plan to either leave a few minutes early or expect to wait in a long line.
One thing to avoid
From a specialist guide
Watch out for two traps. First, don't book central San Francisco just because of the team name, since it's 40 miles away and takes two transit legs to reach. Second, watch the station names: the VTA light rail station at the stadium is called 'Great America' and is a 0.2-mile walk from the gates, but there's a separate station called 'Santa Clara-Great America' used by ACE and Capitol Corridor trains, about 0.6 miles away. VTA tells riders not to use the light rail station as a transfer point for ACE or Capitol Corridor, and to use Lick Mill station instead. Fans often book the wrong one.

Bars near the stadium
From a specialist guide
Pomaikai Shishido, Google Maps
SP2 Communal Bar + Restaurant
San Pedro Square, Downtown San Jose, CA
This is the strongest South Bay recommendation because the 49ers themselves chose it as a Faithful Watch Party venue for the 2025-26 season. Downtown San Jose is also where stadium guides tell car-free visitors to base themselves, so a fan staying there can watch the game at SP2 and then ride VTA to the stadium, and the two halves of the trip line up well.
Away fans: it's an official club watch-party host, so it's open to the public by design.
Harrington's Bar & Grill
San Francisco Financial District
This Irish bar and grill markets itself directly to 49ers fans, with warm wooden fittings and the feel of a locals' bar rather than a big screen-filled sports bar. It says itself that you get the noise of a good crowd without the feel of a mega sports bar.
Away fans: mostly home fans.
