What we know about NRG Stadium
Where visiting fans stay
Checked at the source- Downtown Houston. 20 min. METRORail Red Line to Stadium Park/Astrodome. Reliant has almost no bar scene on the stadium campus itself since it's surrounded by parking lots, but it does have a light rail station right at the gate. The METRORail Red Line runs from downtown to Stadium Park/Astrodome in about 20 minutes for $1.25, with trains every 6 minutes on weekdays and every 12 minutes on weekends. That means you get a real downtown with bars and restaurants plus a cheap, frequent train straight to your seat. Downtown is the right place to stay, not a backup plan.
- Midtown / Museum District. 15 min. METRORail Red Line. Both sit right on the Red Line between downtown and the stadium, so they're closer to the stadium than downtown while keeping full access to the train. Midtown has the busier bar scene of the two, while the Museum District is quieter and puts the Museum of Fine Arts and the Houston Zoo close by for a non-game day. Either one cuts your game-day ride down to about 10 to 15 minutes.
- NRG/Reliant Park hotel cluster. 8 min by walk. This only makes sense if you want to roll out of bed and walk straight into the stadium. The Crowne Plaza (0.3 mi), Vacation Inn Houston S, NRG Area (0.4 mi) and Extended Stay America (0.4 mi) are all within walking distance of the stadium, but the area around them is just frontage roads and parking lots. You'll end up riding the Red Line into town for dinner anyway, which kind of defeats the point of staying here.

Checked at the source- Bag policy: Bags are limited to a clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag no bigger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, or a one-gallon clear zip-seal bag, plus a small clutch no bigger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Medically necessary items are the only exception allowed for Texans games. Note that the wider Reliant Park campus rule for non-NFL events is different, allowing an 11 by 17 inch bag with diaper and medical bags let in after inspection, so don't use that rule on game day.
- Re-entry: Re-entry isn't allowed. Both the Texans A-Z guide and the Reliant Park campus guide confirm this: once your ticket is scanned, you can't go back in.
- Prohibited items: Here's what an international fan should watch for: camera lenses over 3 inches are banned, which is stricter than the 6 inch limit at SoFi, Soldier Field, and U.S. Bank Stadium. Binocular cases and camera cases aren't allowed, and neither is outside food or drink, oversized umbrellas, air horns, whistles, noisemakers, cowbells, backpacks, or coolers. Strollers are allowed, but you have to check them at a Guest Experience booth.

3416 Roseland St, Houston, TX 77006 (Montrose)
Michael Griffin opened Griff's in 1965, blending his Irish heritage with his love of sports, and it's considered the oldest surviving sports bar in Houston. ESPN named it the best sports bar in America in 2004.
Away fans: mostly home fans.
Biggio's
1777 Walker St, Houston, TX 77010 (Marriott Marquis, Discovery Green)
Biggio's is named after Astros Hall of Famer Craig Biggio and sits inside the Marriott Marquis overlooking Discovery Green. It's Houston's go-to answer for visitors looking for a place to watch the game.
Away fans: mixed, welcoming to away fans
Little Woodrow's MidtownBefore or after
2306 Brazos St, Houston, TX 77006 (Midtown)
Little Woodrow's Midtown is a laid-back, 21-and-over neighborhood bar on Brazos Street. It has a dog-friendly backyard patio, yard games, and 30 to 50 TVs.
Away fans: neutral, a general sports bar, not a Texans room
Red River Ice House
10308 S Main St, Houston, TX 77025
The Texas ice house is a local building type, an open-sided bar with garage doors that goes back to when these buildings sold ice. Red River is the version closest to Reliant Park, which is why local nightlife guides call it the closest proper bar to the stadium.
